Calcium homeostasis disruption - a bridge connecting cadmium-induced apoptosis, autophagy and tumorigenesis.
Calcium and cadmium are divalent metals and have similar chemical properties. Both can enter cells through, albeit different, channels, or through protein-dependent permeation. However, cadmium disturbs the calcium homeostasis by inhibiting calcium channels and/or related proteins. Cadmium can also alter membrane phospholipid concentrations, and so induce a calcium homeostasis disorder. The alt...

Estimating Potential Fire Danger within the Siberian Tiger Habitat
Forests of the Russian Far East, designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage site and home to the Siberian tiger a highly endangered species with approximately 350 adult tigers remaining in the wild, are severely threatened by wildland fires. The frequency of catastrophic fire events is predicted to rise due to global warming trends. The large size and mountainous terrain of the study area and gov...
متن کاملPulmonary Tuberculosis due to Mycobacterium bovis in Captive Siberian Tiger
We report the first case of pulmonary tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium bovis subsp. caprae in a captive Siberian tiger, an endangered feline. The pathogen was isolated from a tracheal aspirate obtained by bronchoscopy. This procedure provided a reliable in vivo diagnostic method in conjunction with conventional and molecular tests for the detection of mycobacteria.
متن کاملPortulaca oleracea protects H9c2 cardiomyocytes against doxorubicin-induced toxicity via regulation of oxidative stress and apoptosis
Abstract Background and Objectives: Doxorubicin as an effective chemotherapeutic agent is frequently used in various cancers. Nowadays, the application of doxorubicin is limited due to its cardiotoxic effects. The important mechanism which is involved in the cardiac injury of doxorubicin is the generation of reactive oxygen species; therefore antioxidant compounds may reduce cardiotoxicity. ...
